The Australian Government has introduced the Migration Amendment (Training Visas—Sponsorship Requirements) Regulations 2026, which changes how applicants apply for the Subclass 407 Training Visa.
To make a valid application for Training visa, applicants must now have:
an approved Temporary Activities Sponsor, and
an approved training nomination (if the sponsor is not a Commonwealth agency)
before they can lodge a visa application.
Previously, sponsorship approval, nomination, and the visa application could be submitted at the same time. This is no longer allowed.
The Australian Department of Home Affairs says the change is designed to strengthen the integrity of the program following a significant increase in onshore applications since mid-2024, and to ensure the visa is used for genuine workplace training and professional development.
The new rules commence on 11 March 2026.
If you’re considering applying for a 407 Training Visa, it’s important to ensure the sponsorship and nomination approvals are in place first.
