As per the recent announcements from the Department of Home Affairs, by the end of 2023 there will be an option for all TSS visa holders to apply for Permanent visa SC 186 in the TRT (Temporary residence transition) stream.
Currently, the 186 TRT stream is only available for visa holders with occupation on the Medium and Long-term Strategic skills list but after the changes are in place even the Short-term stream TSS visa holders will have this pathway.
Further to that, the number of years the visa holder must be working for one employer whilst holding TSS visa will be reduced from 3 to 2 years.
The Department will also remove limits on number of TSS visas in Short-term stream which can be applied onshore, as an interim measure.
